In the spirit of quilting, I found this DIY Shower Curtain Tutorial on Design Sponge. It is not “quilted” by definition, but it is a combo of pieces of fabric pieced together. It is the quilt without the batting and backing fabric. It just shows that there are other things you can make with your newly acquired quilting skills..hint hint..all you ladies in the modern quilting class.

This crafty tutorial is actually a collaboration between Lauren, age 8, and me. All of the supplies that you need can be found around the house. First things first. I don’t feel like I have ever properly introduced Lauren on this blog. She is sweet little hand model you see in the pictures and happens to be my step-daughter. You will also hear me refer to her as the fairest child in the house, since her hair is the most blond and her skin the most fair. She is a beauty inside and out and has taught us all how to be a little bit clearer in demanding that our needs be met. We are working on bringing the demanding part down to a declaration, but in any case, it can be a good thing to knoe what you want in life–and Lauren proves this axiom.
What do we do with these hearts? These hearts can be used for many different things. You can use them as a background for Valentine’s Day cards. Just cut a much smaller heart out of white or colored card stock and glue stick it (is that a verb?) to the coffee filter heart. Write “TO:” and “FROM:” and that’s that. Easy-Peasy. My favorite use for them came from Lauren- who decided instead- to punch two holes in the tops of the hearts and to run 99cent store twine through them. She ended up with a garland of 9 or 10 hearts that is hanging in our front window. I love..love…love seeing the garland when I am driving into our driveway.

These photos are super easy to do. In fact, we did this photo shoot in 15 minutes flat, during a snowy day in 30 degree weather. It was freeeeeez—ing. We didn’t even do that whole thing where you look at the camera screen in between pix to see how cute you look, because it was just too cold to do so. Instead we took approximately 120 shots…one after the other…jumped in the car..shivered until the heater and seat warmers kicked in (approximately 2 miles later) and went home and drank hot chocalate. I did a few simple editing tricks in iphoto and uploaded the photo to Shutterfly. Shutterfly charged me 99 cents to send each picture in an addressed and stamped envelope to our friends and family. It sure beat the whole fiasco I had last year, where I bought these super cute vintage looking cards from Target, gathered all of my addresses from various web sources, and stamped the darn things…only to fail to send them. Why? Because we never took the darn family portrait. Thank you, Shutterfly. I like this method a whole lot better. Maybe I will get to the point someday, where I can actually hand write the cards and hand draw them as well as including a family picture (one where we are all looking at the camera). For now, the dirty brick wall on 4th Street is what we got. Feedback: Every one who got one loved it, besides the comment “Your picture looks like it was taken in the Depression Era.” That one sort of hurt, but I decided that he (who will remain un-named) didn’t get it.
If you to go to our DIY Valentine’s Photo Shoot, you will see the same techniques being used.
