Reno Art Scene-Nevada Museum of Art in May
Here is a list of the things in May that I think are HOT, especially if you are on a BUDGET!
1. Friday, May 7th, 12-1 pm Bryan Christiansen-A tour of the Artist’s Studios (Sponsored by Nevada Museum of Art)$12;$10 for members.

This guy is a champ. A UNR student who already has an exhibit in the Nevada Museum of Art. Like for realsies. Not a “student” exhibit. This guy is legit. I might see you there, if I can move a meeting I have planned.
I love studio tours because they are so much more intimate than sitting in an auditorium listening to an artist drone on about their process, etc. I think it kinda helps to be in the actual studio. These opportunities don’t come along all too often.
2. Saturday, May 8th, Free Saturdays at the museum. Check out the new Fernando Botero Exhibit at The Nevada Museum of Art. FREE
This Colombian guy has a thing for blowing people up into marshmallow creatures. But, awww, the relief when you are not looking at another copy-cat. His work appeals to the eye on many levels. It is sort of like my intrigue with glow-worms as a kid. They were squishy and pretty and by golly, they lit up. His work is unique, something not to be missed.
3.Thursday, May 13th, 6 pm Holland Project’s 3-min. Film Competition

By now, you probably know the affinity I have for this local non-profit. But the truth of the matter is, I don’t really give attention to things I don’t like. I rather enjoy talking about the Holland Project, and even more so I keep my eye on them, because I know that they are going to turn out amazing artists. They are bound to strike gold a time or two. I mean what other small-medium sized cities have a non-profit dedicated to giving kids a head-start on all of the DIY art indie music goodness? I can’t think of any. Plus, they have been promoting this 3-min. film contest for a while now. There are bound to be some gems. Don’t under-estimate these guys just because they are a bunch of indie rocker kids who can barely drive a car.
